Community Home Run Derby Fundraiser

Cancer is a heart-wrenching diagnosis for any one (or their loved ones) to receive. But there’s something that feels even more devastating when the recipient of the diagnosis is a child. For local teen Mia Trease, who is currently in a battle with osteosarcoma cancer, this was the case. When Magic Valley Electric heard that Mia was in this fight, we didn’t think she should go at it alone!

And when we heard another local company – Elite Restoration – felt the same way, both businesses thought it was time to join forces, and the Community Home Run Derby Supporting Mia Trease was the result.

“The Trease family is local, so when this kind of thing happens, it affects the community,” stated Jamison Wood, the business development manager here at Magic Valley Electric.

The two companies teamed up on June 1st for the Community Home Run Derby Supporting Mia Trease to hit some homeruns at Filer High School in order to raise some money for Mia. The evening began with a kids’ home run derby, followed by a one-pitch softball game between Elite Restoration and Magic Valley Electric (each company contributed a $500 donation, which the losing team had to match!), and the evening ended with an adult home run derby. But that wasn’t all! There was also a raffle, entertainment, a dunk tank, food, and more.

“Each company’s owner kept nominating each other to dunk at the dunk tank, so we raised money, and everyone had fun. In fact, both teams had so much fun they each said we should do it again,” Wood added. “So many people from the community got involved to help out and donate. We had a lot of hands.”

The total amount raised was over $3500 that all will go to Mia and her brave battle!

And which company ended up winning the softball match? We at Magic Valley Electric don’t mean to brag, but we some of us might have a future in softball.

But really, everyone came out a winner who was involved in making this event a success. When everyone has fun working together for a great family and a great cause, no one loses. Together, we are #StrongerThanThis!
