When Is It Time to Call an Electrician?

Many people call electricians when they have a faulty circuit breaker and their power goes out a lot, but there are more reasons to call that you may not have considered. Here’s a list of several reasons you may want to schedule a visit from your electrician today.

Seeing Sparks.

Noticing sparks when you plug in or unplug something is a good reason to have a professional electrician take a look.

Overcrowded Outlets.

Outlets are overcrowded these days, especially with the common use of power strips that allow for multiple electronics to be plugged in and operating at the same time. An outlet with two plug-in spots should probably only have two electronic devices plugged in at a single time. If you need more outlets installed, call your electrician today – they’d be happy to help!

Flickering Lights.

If you notice your lights flicker often, even after changing the light bulb, that’s a good sign that you may have some electrical issues that need checked out by a licensed electrician.

Your Home is Over 25 Years or Older.

Whether you’ve lived in your home for that long, or you just bought a home that old, it’s a good idea to get your electricity checked out for safety. An annual checkup – especially on an older home – is never a bad decision.

Two-Pronged Outlets.

Along the same line as the previous point, an older home may have two-pronged outlets instead of the more common three-pronged outlets. It’s well-worth your time and money to get these switched out if your home has them.

No Safety Switches.

Having Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) on your outlets in bathrooms and kitchens (any outlet near water) means your home is up to code. If these rooms or areas are lacking these switches, give your electrician a call.

Installing a Ceiling Fan (or Other New Lighting Source).

Unless someone in your home is an experienced electrician, you may want to have a professional come and assist you with installing a new ceiling fan to ensure that all of the wiring is in proper place.

These are only a few of the possible reasons you may need to call an electrician. A good rule of thumb: when in doubt, seek us out!
